Cat & Dog Wellness Exams in South Portland, ME

At Cape Veterinary Clinic, we recognize the importance of preventive care. An annual exam not only promotes well-being, it also allows the prevention and early detection of illness. To us, a healthy pet is a happy pet, and a happy pet is part of a happy family!

A cat or dog annual exam will typically include:

A physical exam: A complete physical exam will include more than just examining the ears, eyes, heart, lungs, and temperature of your pet. We will also provide a dental, dermatological, and musculoskeletal exam. Based on the findings of the exam, as well as the previous history, age, breed, and lifestyle of your pet, we may make recommendations regarding dental care, nutrition, and overall health of your pet.
Vaccines: At your pet’s yearly exam, we will discuss and update which vaccines are appropriate for your pet based on their age, breed, and lifestyle.
Parasite Prevention: We recommend submitting a fecal sample at your pet’s yearly exam to test for intestinal parasites. We will also discuss and recommend heartworm and flea prevention based on the specific needs of your pet.
Diagnostic Tests: With a simple 8-minute blood test, we can identify your dog’s exposure to heartworms, Lyme disease, and 2 other tick-borne diseases (Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis). Based on your pet’s age and need, we may recommend other blood work to aid in the early detection of illness.
